Fresh pair of eyes please
« on: Thursday 01 October 09 08:50 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I am trying to find my Davis/Davies family on the 1841/51 census and would appreciate any help ....

Evan Davies married Ann Mason in 1833, I have found 7 children for them - George cr 1834, Robert bc 1837, Ann cr 1845, Ann cr 1847, Elizabeth Ann born 1849, George bc 1852 and Richard bc 1855 - all born Pembroke Dock

I have on the 1861 census
Ann age 54 widow bn St Florence, Pemb.
Elizabeth age 11 bn Pembroke Dock
George age 9 bn Pembroke Dock
Richard age 6 bn Pembroke Dock

Have also found Robert age 24 bn Pembroke Dock married to Mary with daur Sarah, living PD.

The 1871 census has Ann age 60 bn Pembroke living with son Robert and family, plus son George in Pembroke St Mary, and it looks a though Elizabeth is working at the Victoria Hotel as a domestic servant.

I have the birth cert for Elizabeth Ann bn 18.5.1849 father Evan Davies, occupation policeman & Ann formerly Mason, I also have her marriage certificate for 1873 which gives her father as Evan Davies, constable, deceased.  Just for good measure I have Roberts marriage certificate for 1859 which shows Evan as a policeman, (but does not say deceased).  George Davies was a witness on both certs.

I have searched and searched the 1851/41 census until my eyes couldn't take any more ..... what I am really trying to find is a birth place for Evan so that I can investigate him further.

Hope someone can help
Regards

Hi Osprey

Many thanks for taking the time to look this up for me ... it looks good, especially when you see the gap between Robert bc 1837 and the next child Ann cr 1845 .... I did wonder if there could be more children that had either died or were too old to be with their mother on the 1861 ....

Unfortunately I can't find Margaret and Sarah on the 1851 either ... I have now resorted to checking out each page of the enumeration districts for Pembroke Dock as I feel that they should be there given that Elizabeth born 1849 and George bc 1852 both have PD as their place of birth .... have only managed 1 and a half so far, had to stop as the old eyes were going .... will give it another go at the weekend ....

Do you have any ideas where I could locate information regarding police records for that time period?

Once again many thanks for finding them
Regards

not sure about the police records. The record office in Haverfordwest might be able to help though. If they don't have them, they should know who does.
