Marriage - Mary Jane CAPELL
« on: Thursday 01 October 09 10:59 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help me please.
My great grandfather Richard Capell who was born in 1836 in Invingoe Buckinghamshire.
He died in Hill end Hospital St Albans 1907.
On the report we had back from Hertford records office, his only visitor was his daughter Mary Jane Wheasleyof Primrosehill Kings Langley.
He did have a daughter called Mary Jane born 1875 from Berkhamsted Hertfordshire.
I have looked and can't find a marriage for Mary marying anyone with the surname of Wheasley.
Could anyone please have a look to see if they can find one.Maureen

It could be that the hospital cant read their own writing and that this is the marriage -

That William and Mary Jane are still in Derbyshire in 1901
RG13 3229 87 20 , but she is 33 and born Derbyshire (not Berkhampstead)
so it is looking less likely

Hi Liz
I did look at the name Wheatley as well and did see that marriage,so I did dismiss that one as Mary wasn't born in Berkhamsted.Thank's for your help Maureen

I cant see Mary in 1891 at all, or siblings.
Richard appears to be with his bro in law, as 1901.
Have you ever found her?

I think Mary is on the 1891 census under her middle name of Jane. She was a servant for J.A Hudson.Maureen

That doesnt give us any clues then.

Who registered Richard's death? That wasnt her by any chance was it? Or was it the ror in law whom he had lived with - mind you, you'd have thought he would have visited him in hospital if he was fit and able to, maybe he wasnt.
ANd did Richard leave a will? by the 20th Century many more people than you might think did. And Wills are a brilliant way of seeing what happened to people's offspring, esp finding married names of daughters!

Hi
No Mary Jane didn't register his death
The Info from Hertford records office  was this, and that's all we know.

He was admitted to Hill End on the 14th January 1907 - the date of his death is given as  31st March 1907.
His abode before that was Watford Union Infirmary, he was either a pauper or worked there. It states that he was a widower.  He was sent into Hill End by F. Fisher (JP) and there was a medical certificate signed by J. Buchanan on the 12th January 1907.
Richard Capell was classed as a Pauper.
He was 71yrs old when he died, but he had a mental disorder recorded when he was 69yrs old, they do not say whether it was due to an accident.
He had been ill for 2yrs 2months and 17days.
His death was recorded as senile dementia and he was buried in the asylum cemetery grave number 43.
The person present at his death was an attendant by the name of George Quemby.

His only visitor during this period was his daughter - Mary Jane Wheasley of Primrose Hill, Kings Langley, Herts. Maureen
