St Marys Churchyard, Whickham - Advice Please?
« on: Thursday 01 October 09 11:38 UTC (UK) »

Hello,

I'm hoping someone could please advise me please - I have some ancestors who lived and died in Whickham:

- Joseph Liddell   (died Q1 1876)
- Charlotte Ann Liddell (died Q4 1899)

- James Collin (Q4 1868)
- Anne Collin (Q2 1875)

- James William Liddell (Feb 1918)
- Jane Liddell (Jan 1951)

I shall be visiting Whickham next week and would desperately like to try to find their graves - I believe at least some of them are likely to be at St Mary's. Is it a big graveyard?

Is there someway of locating prior to my visit where their gravestones are as I will have someone with me whom I don't want to drive mad searching forever!  Huh

I have contacted the Gateshead council but they have nothing for St Marys.

You're help and advice would be gratefully received.......... Smiley

It is a fairly large graveyard well tended.  I found a youngster hedgehog there--cute bugger.

A number of Liddle and Collins and various variations.  This one should make you happy along with another family member

E20  (plinth) Joseph beloved husband of Charlotte Ann Liddell who died Sept 30 1876 age 49 years. The above Charlotte Ann Liddell died Dec 29 1899 age 65.  Thomas Collin Liddell their son who died June 20 1867

Section E is just across the East to West Path and  to the right as you face North.  (This is past section C that is the area to the back of the church-there is another path that cuts a diagonal separating section B (left)and C (right)

A plinth is the base or platform that a statue or column sets on

Section H (inside church) southwest corner has a WW1 war memorial with a J Liddell

I have a transcript of MIs from the churchyard.  I looked at all the references for Collins and Liddell/Liddle etc and that one was the only one that I found.  Of course there are always headstones that are unreadable or past the time the transcript was done from that still might be there.

Janis

How does one go about obtaining a transcript of the MIs at St. Mary's Churchyard, Whickham?

You can ordered on line or in person NDFHS.  They are in a microfiche format, or sometimes cd or book
