FARMER'S - Birth of the Chemical Industry, Widnes

NORLEY
« on: Thursday 06 May 04 10:01 BST (UK) »

I have been studying my direct descendants for the last 12 months. The majority of my descendants came from the Widnes and Runcorn areas of Cheshire (Lancs).  I have a line that originates in NORLEY.

I recently began to trace my Husbands family from Chester, and have found his family too originate from the NORLEY, DELAMERE area.

I find this quite fasinating - Just hope we dont have a family connection.

What can anyone tell me about Norley / Delamere in and around 1880's - 1900.

Does anyone have any access to Parish Records for this area?

Looking for JOSEPH STRETCH and  JOHN BELL.

Hi Stretchie,
From the burial registers of St John the Evangelist Norley:
John Bell 13 FEB 1879 a96y
John Bell 10 SEP 1879 a64y
no sign of a Joseph Stretch.......
These have been posted to Rootsweb Cheshire-L mailing list along with the marriage registers which are underway at the moment. You will be able to access them throught the rootsweb archives for this list.
Hope this helps,
Odessa.

Hi,
Only Stretch's in the burial register are as follows:
29 JAN 1924 Nellie Stretch of Bratt's Bank a5y
14 MAY 1926 Eva Mary Stretch of Delamere House Farm a2y
05 AUG 1959 John Stretch of Warrington General Hospital a25y

No Stretch's in the marriages transcribed so far.

Closest parishes to Norley are Crowton, Kingsley, Delamere and Frodsham.

Sorry it's not very helpful Sad

Hi Stretchie

with ref to your posts

Looking for JOSEPH STRETCH and  JOHN BELL.
Thanks for the info on John Bell but need him to be older

Frodsham St Lawrence would be the main parish church serving the township of Norley. If you havn't already seen it there is info about this area at this link

http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/chs/frodsham.htm

I have an index for marriages registered at Frodsham prior to 1837. For John Bell it gives the following

1) 16/2/1655 marrying Judith Twine
2) 8/1/1778        ~       Hannah Wilkinson
3) 26/5/1807      ~       Eloneor Bell  (its correct)

Joseph Stretch only one
    1739 Elizabeth Barrow
