David Boyd Robert Boyd Margatet Lietch
« on: Thursday 01 October 09 22:32 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone have any information on the following family from Bute Rothsay.

Robert Boyd married Margaret Lietch in 1780 they had  children David b. 1781 John b. 1785, James b. 1789 Robert b. 1792 Charles b. 1795 and Stewart b. 1802. I am trying to find what happened to David b. 1781. My gg grandfather was William Boyd b. 1821 and his father was David Boyd.  William Boyds married into the Carrick Family from Scotland but settled in Dublin. There is a strong connection of Boyd, Carrick, Leitch or Leetch or Leech and Irwin families being involved in glass/china/delf in Dublin.

If anyone has any info to share which may help I would appreciate it.

Hi Ann,

He married Jane Carrick whose father was John MacAulay Carrick whose father was Alexander Carrick Lawyer in Glasgow whose father was Rev James Carrick baptised 1738 in New Kilpatrick Scotland. Rev James father was Andrew C Carrick of Kippen who married a Margaret McAulay in 1731.
That is as far back as I know.

The only connection I have for Bute Rothesay was the Robert Boyd who married Margaret Leitch. These two families decendants I believe end up in Dublin Ireland. John Carrick belonged to the Scottish Benevolant society of St Andrew in Ireland. He was the secretary for 18 years until his death.

My g g grandfather William Boyd Married Jane Carrick in 1851 in Dublin. William Boyd was from Glasgow and his father was David Boyd. But that is as far as I can go back. I cant find anything more about either William or David Boyd. This is a Robert Boyd and his wife and children buried in the graves with the Carricks in the 1850's so their must be a connection.

cheers

Hi,

Unfortunately, I'm at a brick wall with my Carrick line (my main line  Angry) at the moment. I know my 3x g grandfather, William Carrick, was born near Kirkintilloch and after he married he moved about quite a bit (his kids were all born in different places). But I can't get past him. Family legend has it that our Carrick line originated in Ireland, but that's pure speculation at the moment, sadly, and I have no idea when it might have been.

The names James and Alexander are interesting though, that was the name of my 2x great grandfather (William's son - who was born on or around the High Street, Rothesay in 1850) - James Alexander Carrick - who also had a son and grandson of the same name. Still haven't figured out where those names came from.

Ah well, maybe no clear link as yet, but I'm still chipping away at the wall  Wink

Regards
Ann

No Rev's so far. Mainly mariners.

I'll PM you with my email, and take a look if that's ok - you never know, something may leap out at me.

Thanks,
Ann
