HELP John Dickinson of Newton on Trent and Saxilby
« on: Thursday 01 October 09 22:37 UTC (UK) »

John Dickinson born 1762 Newton on Trent

Married 1783 Saxilby to Frances Wistow/Wiston

7 children then baptised between 1783 and 1804

An 8th possible child was bap 4/4/1806 in Newton on Trent and recorded as "s/o Frances", suggesting that possibly John had died Huh

There is a John Dickinson bur 23/6/1806 in Newton on Trent, some 2 months after the baptism.

Coincidence ? or am I on the right track ?

But if John was still alive when the child was baptised - why would it only have Frances's name on the record?

Possibilities:

It's an unconnected child

John died long before the child was born so he was Frances's illegitimate son

Did they have a daughter called Frances who was old enough to have had a child in 1806

Still puzzled as to possible 8th child, but now seems

Frances died first, then John remarried.

Maybe just transcription error, or maybe "8th child" was fathered by someone else, although given she/they already had 7 children I would not have thought she would play away from home so to speak.
