Any help to find the death of my grandfather Alfred Elisha Sheppard would be greatly appreciated! I remember him dying when I was a child but I simply cant find a record of it anywhere! I presume he did die and was not raised to heaven so his death must be recorded somewhere!
I have him marrying Margaret Violet Butler on the third October 1910, at the Register Office in Edmonton. I believe he was born 8th of May 1885 to George Thomas Sheppard in Islington. I have a couple of census records after the marriage in 1910, one shortly after my mother Ruby Violet was born a few months into the marriage ..and my mother was such a prude! He is listed as living at 423 Whiteman Rd Hornsey for several years and his daughter Ada Ann Sheppard is listed as living there when she married in 1935. He had another daughter called Dorothy but again I have lost track of her.
I remember he had a bad chest and I was told he was gassed in the War, but again I have had no luck finding any army records.
But I simply cannot find his death anywhere? I dont know why on earth I am finding it so difficult Any assistance in tracking down his records greatly appreciated Pam

Hi
The burial in Enfield in 1928 was of an Alfred Shephard on 7th February 1928 at St James, Enfield Highway. He was of 49 Fairview Road Stamford Hill. From the GRO death registration he was aged 60
This is the man (and the spelling of his surname) whose death is being searched for
Births Jun 1885 Sheppard Alfred Elisha Islington 1b 318
As Carole says the only way to search for deaths at present that are not yet on the partly transcribed FreeBMD is to search the GRO indexes themselves quarter by quarter.
FreeBMD coverage charts

No coverage of any substance after 1935.

Thank you very much for your kind assisitance so far. I do belong to Ancestry, and have looked at that and the Mormon site but couldnt find him. I may have a bad search technique. I was born in 1951 and remember him when I was a child, so presume he probably died in the 60s or thereabouts. I remember his funeral. I thought I was about 8 but its a long time ago! I will look into the Dorothy link, thanks for that Pam

The Dorothy death looks quite hopeful. although I had her birth down as in July/Sept 1914 from the index.... Pam

Hello Pam
Your search technique wasn't the problem as iv'e just had a look and came to the same conclusion ie he was a vampire (he never died)
Alfred was born Alfred Elisha Sheppard 1885
I did come across this individual that the sums don't add up on! Alfred E Sheppard who died at the stated age of 84 in the June qtr of 1964 Edmonton...vol 5c, page 923 the above would mean that if this person died age 84 in the June qtr of 1964 he would have to be born 1879/1880....their is only one Alfred E Sheppard born in that period and he was born in Cardiff in the Sep qtr of 1880 which almost certainly (but not quite) eliminates him as well, however we all know that although you may not have been born/registered with a middle name you may well have acquired one by the time you was christianed......also 5 years is quite a long way off, but he is in the right sort of area and within your timeframe of recalled events
Obviously some detail of his death registration is incorrect......if its not his age it would be the omission of his middle initial, different middle initial, surname spelt differently?

I have now had the death certificate back for Dorothy Burnell nee Sheppard. It appears she died from a fall ( fractured ankle, subdural haematoma ) at the age of 77, there was an inquest and the death is recorded via the coronor. Presumably she died less than 24 hours from admission to hospital as she is recorded as dying at Chase Farm Hospital. The inquest was held in the Northern District ( I think) on the 17th of Nov, she died in June. Does anyone know how I could access the records of the inquest? It might help to give me an idea of relatives as they were not the informant on the death certificate. Thanks Pam
