George Scott Birth Help please

Hi All,

I can't seem to find the Birth of My 3x Grt Grandfather George Scott.
on the 1841 Census he was aged 2 Birth place Roxburghshire
on the 1851 Census he was aged 12 Birth place Hawick
He was Married in 1869 age29.

I've searched IGI, Scotlands People, Scots Origins & just can't seem to find his birth.

Am I going mad or do I just need new glasses?Huh
Any help would be much appreciated.

This is very strange Just tried looking for the births of the rest of Grt Grandfathers family

Robert c 1826
Peter c1827
James c1830
John c1832
William c 1836

can only find John on IGI and it looks like he has been added by an other researcher & can't find any on Scotlands people.


Maybe it wasn't law to register the births of children in those days???

Hi

Civil registration did not commence in Scotland until 1855, prior to that you need church records. Scotlandspeople only has the Established Church of Scotland.

Hi Lesley,

Have you tried to get the death certificate from Scotlandspeople.   It will show his age (presuming it was correctly given by the person notifying his death) then look at the census dates you have and deduce whether it all matches and you should be more sure of his DOB.   

I have had to do this for a few of mine who were born early 1800's when I couldn't find any birth records.

lesley , Michael and Ann HUME married 16-11-1824 hawick I didn find the childrens birth in Rox.

Hi

He died on 13th Dec 1913 age 74
was married on 19th Feb 1869 aged 29
I have both these certificates and all the census.
I'm probably being to pedantic I just wanted to know the day and month he was born and where.
