Worcester Inquest of Harry Martin Hall 1928
« on: Friday 02 October 09 15:24 UTC (UK) »

Hi All  Smiley

I wonder if anyone can offer any help or suggestions on my next course of action. I'm trying to find out about my Mother's Uncle, Harry Martin Hall who died 20 June 1928 aged 19, the year my Mother was born. He was a pillion passenger on a motorcycle that crashed on the Stourport Road, Kidderminster, killing him and we believe the other rider was injured.

There was an inquest held in Worcester on the 5 July 1928
I have written to the Worcester Coroners Office to see if they would release any details of the inquest. Unfortunately they say they don't hold records from that far back, and in some cases they were only kept for 15 years.

Unfortunately I am unable to travel to Worcester to check County Archives or the local library myself, but would they hold any inquest reports, and would the accident and the subsequent inquest findings have been reported in a local paper at the time. If so, who would be my best line of inquiry to email to try to find out more?

My Grandmother didn't know what sex the child was she was carrying, so when my Mother was born four moths after Harry's death she was gave her the middle name of Violet, which was the name of Harry's Fiance.

Any suggestions would be most helpful
Regards

The local papers for the area would be the  Kidderminster  Times, and The Kidderminster Shuttle.

The Kidderminster Shuttle volumes for 1928 are held at the Worcestershire Library and History centre on microfilm.  See attached link

If you can't get there yourself they offer a research service also.  As you know when the incident took place it shouldn't be too costly to dig it out

Best of luck with your search.

I really appreciate the links Andrew, you've been most helpful. I'll be firing off a couple of emails tomorrow.
