"Genealogists do it with dead people"

Spooky?
« on: Friday 02 October 09 16:58 UTC (UK) »

How spooky is this?
Part of my family have stayed in one city for at least the last 200 years, the rest have been from various places. Looking through the census records I found that I've lived or worked in the same streets or nearby, and because I like to move house alot I seem to have lived in most of the places my ancestors were from - in various places around the country, not just locally. I had absolutely no idea who they were or where they were from until this week!
Lucky for me that some of my oldest ancestors came from where I live now, so I wont have far to go to search the parish records!

I have done the same!

I live in the Manchester area, but I have lived all over the country in the past ............ come back home now to where I love lol.

I regularly drive past where my dads parents families settled in Manchester, an area I know very well.

I just recently discovered my dads grandads family came from near Wellington Shropshire ............... where I lived for several years and I used to drive thru the village they lived in ......

Mums dads family came from Nantwich & Wybunbury areas in Cheshire - again where I used to drive thru regularly .........

Years back I worked in Bollington area of Cheshire - My nanas parents and her mums family lived there

I have a very limited knowledge of the Liverpool area - mainly just from visiting a relative at the uni - I just tracked my dads family to Liverpool .................and the road they used to live in is now part of the Uni ............

The one that freaked me out most tho was my Nanas Dad (lol most of the Chat room know about the 'Elusive Henry Childs') ............... He was born in Norfolk & promptly vanished ............. I recently tracked him to Lancashire & Yorkshire with his Mother and half-siblings .................... One of the addresses they Lived at was in a small Village called Ousebourne near York ............................ I worked in a boarding School in the Village a few years ago!

Wierd thing is - All the areas I have visited that family have lived in I have felt 'at home' in

Wow Gaille! I wonder how many of us have done it then, but never knew - I would never if I hadn't got obsessed with family hunting!
Before moving to Gloucester, I was going to move to Bromsgrove (where I now know my lot were for a long time) but decided against it cos I didn't know the area...well, maybe I do..  Wink

These are well spooky!

A friend of mine (met through Ancestry and thought we were related but sadly we're not) recently bought a small house for her son to live in while at uni and found that it was exactly opposite the house where her (something like) ggg grandfather lived for 30+years!

Haven't had any spooky revelations myself but I'm waiting lol.

lol this may well spook you out then!

I got the burial records about 8 or 9 months ago for a young child on my Mums Dads side of the family.
While I was looking at it the address seemed very familiar but I couldnt figure out why, so I finaly put it to the back of my mind.

In May I had a major operation & I was housebound for almost two months, so I set about doing something I intended doing for a long time - transcribing some of my old notebooks some dating back to the 1990s lol - into one book per family surname, so they were more logical.

As I was transcribing one I came across the death notice for my Mums Cousin - on her Mums side - and there it was ..................

The same address!

Over 150 years apart both sides of my mums family had lived in the same house!

My wife was born and brought up in Barrow In Furness and I in Manchester.  We now live in Preston, it turns out the service road / car park behind our house was once the street my wifes Great Great Grandparents lived with their family.  My daughter now attends the same school as her ancestors
