Advice please re Llandilofawr wedding
« on: Friday 02 October 09 19:32 UTC (UK) »

(Think I posted to the wrong place so reposting here - will try to delete other post!)

Is there any way I can find more information about a wedding in Llandilofawr in OND 1931?

I am trying to find a marriage between a Rees Griffiths and pobably a Blodwen.

RG lived in Cwmtwrch, Ystradgynlais and Blodwen was believed to be from E Carms.

I can find no record of a likely wedding except for a Rhys Griffiths and Blodwen Evans, Llandilofawr 1931.

As this is probably not the correct Rees G, I'd like to find out a bit more to eliminate it.

Is there some way I can find out more without getting the cert?  eg local records etc?

I live nearby so I can visit anywhere in Llandilofawr if necessary.

I will be really grateful for any help, advice or suggestions.

Thanks!

the parish records should be in the county record office in Carmarthen. But you need to know the place of worship where they married in order to find the record. Or search the parish & non-conformist records for all the parishes covered by the registration district :-

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/llandilofawr.html

Coverage of non-conformist records at record offices is rarely complete, so no guarantee you'll find it. If the marriage as in a register office, there will be no record at parish level.

I'd say that compared to the size of that search, the £7 for the marriage cert looks like a bargain.

Thanks, Osprey,  for the very informative reply.
It's because I didn't know what was involved that I asked.
Looks like I should have said 'relatively easy' way to find out!!
Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Definitely no 'relatively easy' way. You could try searching newspapers at Carmarthen library in case the marriage got a mention.
