George Longstaff and parents William Longstaff & Winifred Hogan
« on: Saturday 03 October 09 14:16 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I'm trying to firm up my Longstaff ancestors. I'm starting with George Longstaff and his parents.
What we know so far:-
George Longstaff was born 22 March 1860 in Barnard Castle.
His parents were
William Longstaff b c 1837 Pellington, Lincolnshire
Winifred Hogan b c1839 Wakefield, Yorks
We have a marriage for William and Winifred in Teesdale 1859.
We also have them in the 1861 census but can not find William, Winifred or George in the 1871 census.

I have George Longstaff's family in the 1891 and 1901 census but not the 1881 census

So I would like to know:-
1. Anything about William, Winifred and George between 1861 and 1881.
2. Did George have any siblings?
3. Anything about the parents of William and Winifred (but i realise this may be the wrong board for that).

thanks for looking
Bob

Hi Diddy,
No I've not seen it yet. I've just come back to re-examine these Longstaff ancestors and was wanting to see if anyone could see if there was anything else out there that my inexperienced eyes had missed.
cheers

Sorry Diddy! I was working in two Counties but my main request was for this county. I just wanted to see ifany of the Lincolnshire experts could place the location for William. Was not trying to duplicate. I should have linked, my fault. Sorry again.

Hi Gary,
Yes I've seen that. So far I've not seen any connection between her trees and mine (unfortunately).

Hello Bob. I see that they were catholics. I have catholic records for Barnard Castle.
Do you want what I have ie baptisms, deaths and marriages.

In 1891, they have a niece living with them - Alice Longstaff age 6 born Stockton - in 1901, Alice Longstaff is in Stockton with Joseph and Margaret A Tweddle (+ 6 half/step siblings) noted as step daughter to Joseph. Margaret is age 35 and born Durham Billingham RG13/4627 Folio 103 Page 2

Joseph Tweddle and Margaret Longstaff married March 1891 Stockton 10a 150

So Margaret should be George's sister I think.....

In 1891, Joseph Tweddle (22 Whickham?), Margaret (25 Billingham) and son Joseph (2 Stockton) are living at 25 New Street, Thornaby, Yorkshire RG12/4020 Folio 19 Page 31
(another Tweddle family are in the same house, probably Joseph's parents from their ages)

Still trying to find her with parents though  Undecided
