Hi, I think Ashland Avenue is in the Swinley Area of Wigan in which case the parish church would be St. Michael and All Angels.  They have/had a very small churchyard.  You can google for contact details.

The next nearest parish is probably St. Anne's Beech Hill but I don't think they have a churchyard - never noticed one anyway!!

I did ask for a search of all Wigan cemeteries and the result came back that she wasn't buried at any - but thanks for the idea!

best wishes,
Ian.

Hi Ian,

Did you check that she wasn't cremated? If you contact Wigan Council they will be able to tell you the person to contact, and details of any crematoria in the locality.  I am assuming people could be cremated at that time.

Hi. Cremation has been around since the 1880's so that's a distinct possibility.

The other thing I thought of was that although she lived in Swinley, she may have been buried in a family grave somewhere else.  That often happens.  Did the family come from Swinley or ??

oh eck!

now the plot thickens lol  Grin

didn't really consider cremation  Undecided

and the family were originally from Hindley, Wigan and possibly "non-conformist" at some point (may have lapsed!).

Not sure what kind of look up was conducted in the cemeteries - I pressumed all, near the date of death but now I'm questioning it.  Undecided

may have to go back to the drawing board and start again.

oh eck!

Okay. Just to confuse you further.  There are three C of E churches in Hindley.  St. Peter's, All Saints, and St. John's Hindley Green.  There is also a large methodist (non conformist) church.

All Saints definitely has a churchyard, but not St. Peter's or St. John's.

I know a few folk from Hindley and will pass the name Plimmer past them.

Regards. R.

ps. why not contact Wigan crem and ask about their records?

Have you tried the obits in the Local papers. If the entry is there it will more than likely tell you where the service was held and often where they were going to be buried/cremated.May just give you at least an area to continue your searches
