Brett/ Beddowes
« on: Sunday 04 October 09 05:52 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for parents of William Brett who married Ethel Beddowes around 1911-1915, they had a child James in 1915 the birth was registered in Wrexham, but I just can't find when they married where born and their parents etc. Have tried searching the usual places without success and help would be appreciated

Hi

Just curious.  Do you have the birth cert for James?   If yes is your answer. What was William's Occupation?

I know it`s probably going to make matters worse...but there are NO Marriages for Brett in Wrexham 1900-1915
..No Births for Brett in Wrexham ......EXCEPT JAMES !!!! the only one on record..
but....this is strange.
.the death of William Brett aged 1 mar qtr 1915 Wrexham 11b 459....the only one on record.so just when did the Brett family move to Wrexham...William is NOT James `s brother..as he`s not down in the Brett / Beddowes births...NO OTHER DEATHS FOR BRETT IN WREXHAM....I would have thought with only 1 birth and 1 death registered BOTH in 1915 in Wrexham  they must somehow be related....or am I being very naive?Huh    Undecided    ...allan

after reading my post...is it possible that William who died in Wrexham Mar qtr 1915 aged 1 might have been your Williams son to another wife who might have died and William and Ethel never actually married....or is that TOO much to ask ??....do you know that William and Ethel definitely married ?.....allan Smiley

I have James birth certificate that states mother as Ethel Brett formerly Beddowes, James was born at 80 The Walks, Wrexham.  My husband doesn't know where about in the country  William was born, his father James moved to Nottingham at some stage because that is where all my husbands brothers were born.

As I can't find them on 1911 census as married a thought they must have married after 1911

I don't have anything else to go on to trace the family before 1915.

Hi
I was wondering if you'd tried alternative spellings, Bratt, Barratt etc? Just a thought  Smiley

Perhaps a check in the electoral registers for the address in The Walks, Wrexham, may turn up something, although they weren't available during wars years so just before and just after. Undecided

Do you know what religion the family were? Perhaps searching for a baptism for James may be useful too.

Sorry I can't help more Sad

I have just found a Rose Brett born Doncaster Jun 1919, MMN is Beddowes. Shocked

One of the main industries in Doncaster and its surrounding area was mining.

You have only mentioned James, did William and Ethel have any other children?

Hi

Apparently there was an Eileen or Irene and a Leslie that were called Aunt and Uncle by James children but my husbands not sure if they were related or not.
He thinks that William Brett died in wythamshaw area in 1950's, he definately wasn't alive in 1961
