Royal Field Artillery - Gunner
« on: Sunday 04 October 09 13:50 UTC (UK) »

Hello

I'm hoping someone can help me with my query. Cheesy

I'm looking for information on my Great Great Grandad William Ince Wilson.

According to his death certificate he was a Gunner in the Royal Fields Artillery.

He was born in 1887 in Wigan and died on 10th October 1918 at 21 Cemetery Road in Wigan. The 1911 Census shows him married to Ellen Wilson nee Banks and working as a Gas Fitter aged 23.

I have managed to find that William Ince Wilson is buried in Lower Ince Cemetery along with his father Benjamin Wilson.

Any help as to his service records or where he served would be much appreciated. I have searched on ancestry and a few other websites without any success.  Sad

Many thanks

Hello Jemma,

I can't see him on CWGC or SDGW.
His death and burial are registered as plain William Wilson. If his service record is the same, it is going to be very hard to find him without more info.

Also, Ancestry has not uploaded the service records for W surnames yet; only the pension records.

Did he die of a service related injury or sickness? He may have been discharged prior to his death. What are the exact details on his death cert?

Hi Phil

A copy of his death cert is attached.

It looks like he died of Rheumatism and Endoearditis (i cant find out what that is although i found something called Endocarditis - to do with the heart).

Unless he is registered with his full name i probably wont be able to find him then.

Thanks for your help

Jemma

Jemma,

He is ex-Gunner, so it looks like he was discharged.

It is Endocarditis. There is a form called Rheumatic Endocarditis.
No doubt our medically inclined Mod will jump in with a full diagnosis.

Local papers may be the way to go.
