Hi again Mike,
How very intriguing! I read somewhere licences were used in case of a minor or instead of banns because it was faster.
I will happily wait for your update on the marriage, and I have to say this is better than Christmas - I might just start calling you Santa.
Thanks for all the additional burial info too!
Jeannie

Hi Mike,
Ever since I saw your post of the 1851 transcript for William and Sarah Grimes, the reference to Hinckley as place of birth for most of the household has been nagging at me, as if I should recall something. Well it finally came to me!
I would love to have your thoughts on how I should proceed with my research, based on the following:
William Grimes m. Sarah Richardson, 30 Jul 1836, Leicester St. Margaret's Place of birth of Sarah (Richardson) Grimes, 1861/1871/1881 census: Atherstone Age of Sarah 1851/1861/1871/1881: 38/48/58/68 Incredible consistancy! b. 1812/1813
Good match for Sarah: Mancetter (Atherstone) baptisms, date: Apr 28, 1812. Parents: Michael and Elizabeth.
Michael and Elizabeth' marriage was not to be found in Mancetter, neither were they married in Leicester (St. Margaret's), where I found many Richardsons, but not this pair.
Lately I found this 1841 census entry: (Drum roll please.... )
1841 Census: Hinckley (Sparkenhoe) (Stockwell Head )
HO107/601/6/8/p.8
Michael RICHARDSON, 54 Elizabeth RICHARDSON, 59 Harriott RICHARDSON, 22 Charlotte RICHARDSON, 18 Charlotte RICHARDSON, 9 mo. Richard KIRKHAM, 70 Hannah SWAINE, 43
I could not find any good matches for Michael Richardson after 1841. Maybe because there are no less than four Michael Richardsons in the BMD death index registered in Hinckley: 1842, 1848, 1851 and 1861. However, I may have spotted Elizabeth living on her own in the 1861 for Hinckley:
RG9/2260/11/p.16
Elizabeth RICHARDSON, head, 80, b. Hinckley
Besides Sarah Richardson baptised Mancetter to Michael and Sarah, there were two others: Anne, baptised Jun. 20, 1814; and Jane, baptised Jun. 1, 1816.
What do you think the odds are the marriage of Michael Richardson to Elizabeth as well as the baptisms of daughters Harriott and Charlotte might be found in the Hinckley Registers?
Sorry for the long one.
Jeannie

Salutations again, Mike,
You are awesome!
Dare I say you have not only helped me with your fabulous finds but my "hunting instinct" as well. So you think I have I made the proper connection between the baptism in Mancetter and the Hinckley family, then?
Very odd the two baptisms in the same month, different churches, yes?
Best regards, Jeannie
Just added...does it appear that the two baptisms would be the same person?

That must be them - who knew to look under that name? That would be Mike from Leicester, eh?
The 1841 entry I found has Michael Richardson's occupation as Hatter, but you already knew that, yes?
So you have eliminated half of the BMD death entries I found.
Best regards, Jeannie

Very possible, I will see what I can find and let you know the results. There is a Mancetter couple, Michael and Sarah, m. 1783, that I suspect may be his parents.
Kind regards,
Jeannie

Salutations Mike,
So wonderful to hear from you as always.
Quite bemused to hear you still search for my Emma ...
... but for some reason I suspected you were not likely to leave that issue unaddressed.
Many thanks for all the info & time so kindly volunteered. My longtime goal of crossing the pond for the first time seems to grow in importance with every new message and revelation!
Best regards, Jeannie

Greeting’s Again…..Jeannie.
Burials worthy of note :~
St: Helen’s Parish Church. Ashby de la Zouch.
1822.
Parish Burial Register No’. 556.
Ann Grimes. Abode. …Ashby de la Zouch. 17th. April. Aged. 43.
1846. Burial Register No’. 727. Priscilla Grimes. Abode. …Ashby de la Zouch. 11th. November. Aged. 24.
1857. Burial Register No’. 1590. Thomas Grimes. Abode. ….Ashby de la Zouch. 8th. September. Aged. 84.
Hi Mike,
After looking at these dates and 1841-1851 census of Hinckley, I am wondering if you can help connect this Priscilla to my Thomas:
HO107/594/3/27/p.12 - 1841 census, Hinckley:
Thomas GRYMES, 68, b. Leicestershire Sarah GRYMES, 50, b. Leicestersire Priscilla GRYMES, 15, b. Leicestershire
HO107/2084/535/p.37 - 1851 census, Hinckley:
Thomas GRYMES, 76, b. Ashby-de-la-Zouch Sarah GRYMES, wife, 63, b. Ashby-de-la-Zouch Hastings GRYMES, grandson, 7, b. Ashby-de-la-Zouch
Going by the death dates of Ann (Goodman) Grimes and Priscilla Grimes, it would seem Priscilla may be the daughter of Thomas' second marriage to Sarah, c.1822-1823.
Any thoughts on this?
Jeannie
