Chain Bar Methodist Church Moston
« on: Monday 05 October 09 00:16 UTC (UK) »

Its a Sad day for my family today

Chain bar held its final service today & closed its doors.
Mum & Dad went to the closing service this afternoon.

My parents met in this church as children, grew up thru the youth Clubs, Cubs, Scouts, and Rangers (Dad) and the Guides (Mum).

My parents married there, and I was christened there, both my grandparents funerals were held there.
They have a large group of friends now that they still meet up with every month or so that they met as children in the church.

My Grandad played in the band as did my dad, and Myself.
Grandad taught players in the band. Some of my earliest memories revolve around the band practices on a Friday night, and Whit Sunday walks, I remember them even before I was old enough to take an interest in them - LOL I remember playing with my dolls under a table in the corner listening to Dad & Grandad play in the band as clearly now as if it had been yesterday.

Such a shame it has had to close, it will always remain a huge part of our family history - I wouldnt be here now if my parents hadnt both joined the same youth group as children!

What a sad day indeed, but this is the plight of many Churches today who are lacking funds for repairs to the buildings and the lack of churchgoers. It must hurt a great deal as your family were truly involved a great deal with church life and now it all stops for you all.

In times like this you can only count your blessings.

Very sorry Gaille

Hi Gaille

What a sad time for you all.  It's hard enough when churches close and parishes are broken up or have the place of worship and community base moved or closed.  But when family life has been so intertwined for so long with that of the church and community, I can only imagine what a big jolt it will be.

Hoping the next chapter will be fruitful and bring sunshine to heal the wounds, and the transition gentle - and that the old temes and treasures will be looked after!  Not pretending it will be easy though!

Just along from where ny rellies were at Moston, too!

Take care! Smiley Smiley Smiley

Gaille

That's sad.  I think my aunt and uncle and cousins might have gone there too in the 1940s/50s, the name certainly rings a bell.

Lizzie, What were their names?
Mum & Dad were there around that time too as children/teenagers, I may even have photos, my dad took loads of the church groups.
