Have a number of death certs for my elusive gggrandfather - except that none of them are him! Am beginning to suspect he found the secret of eternal life!! MarieC I had about 5 or 6 wrong certificates for my grandfather, because I didn't even definitely know the year he died, let alone where. My father never kept in touch with his side of the family when he was alive, and he's been dead for 26 years. I didn't have any contact with any of his family. All I knew was that my grandfather was a master bricklayer, was alive in 1922 when my father was married the first time, and that he was dead when my father married the second time in 1946. I also knew that he was living in the Greenwich area for much of his life. I'd more or less run out of suitable "candidates".
Eventually I made contact with a cousin on my father's side, and she told me that my grandfather died in 1945 in Kensington, London. What was a master bricklayer from Greenwich doing in Kensington ? Well, apparently, by the time my grandfather died he had annoyed his sons so much that the only one who would take him in was his youngest son, who lived in St Johns Wood. When my grandfather became ill, he was taken in to St Charles Hospital, Kensington, where he died.
