Naval Pensioner Number
« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 08:53 UTC (UK) »

I am researching an individual & have been given his Naval Pension number - is there a document that will connect this to his service record, so I can be sure I've got the right individual? His service dates were c1858-c1880

Hi Steve

This is probably your best chance of finding his records

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/familyhistory/military/navy/rnstep9.htm

So a visit to Kew or a researcher etc would be the way to go.

Hi Steve

Naval pensions were also given to men of the Royal Marines. In which case you will need this  http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/militaryhistory/marines/step2.htm

You can do an online search, but not all are online yet.

Thanks Ken & Glen - I think I can access his service record from another researcher - what I'm after is whether the pension number (given on his death certificate) can be linked to the record
