Lincoln Militia 1800 and 3rd Lincolnshire Foot Regiment 1804
« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 12:17 UTC (UK) »

My 3x grt grandfather ,Robert Keal ,born Boston Lincs married Mary Dixon b Norwich, in 1795 in Heigham Norfolk. I guess he would be about 20, she was 19.He is described as being a Sgt Major in The Militia on his son James' Bap cert in 1800 in Boston. In 1804 on son Robert Peter Keal's Bap cert he is described as a Quarter Master in the 3rd Lincs Foot Reg. -again in Boston.

I would like to know if there would be any information about Robert Keal senior in the military records of the Militia or the 3rd Lincs Foot Reg.

I have no more clues about him as he died before the 1841 census.
Please can someone help ?
many thanks,
Brussels

Might be worthwhile trying Lincolnshire archives to see what they have, failing that there is a lot of militia stuff at the National Archive, Kew

They were probably the same regiment - the 3rd Lincolnshire Militia. There was also a Lincoln (North) Militia and Lincoln (South) Militia.

The National Archives have the musters for the 3rd for 1798, 1799, 1803, 1804 and 1805 in WO13/1348 to WO13/1352.

Many thanks for the response. I know I can't research Lincoln Archives on line but can I research the files at Kew on line? I live in Belgium.

No, you have to go to Kew or use a researcher. The National Archives website has a list.
