Walmer Church
« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 10:28 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I have various ancestors who were baptised in Walmer between 1835-1860 and I wondered if anyone can please tell me the name of the Church which these would have taken please.  Also, would there be any Parish records available and where might they be accessed please?

I also have a couple a few marriages in this area too.

Thanks in anticipation ...

Hi westwood1

A good place to start might be with casalguidi's very useful list of IGI batch numbers
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,283808.15.html
There are four for Walmer.

I see you are another one looking for Kent SPAINs (there are several of us on RootsChat) Grin
Mine are mostly from Walmer, where are yours from?

Betty

Added: I believe the Walmer church was St Mary's, but I'm not sure if that was the only one in the 1800s.

Hi Betty

Thanks for the very useful link (added to my faves now!).

Yes I am looking for Spains, mine so far appear to be from Ramsgate and Margate but am still tracking them back so who  knows!

Kind regards

The Parish Church of Walmer is St Mary's.  The records are held at Canterbury Cathedral Archives, and transcripts are available in Deal library.

They are also available on microfiche from Kent Family History Society.  The fiche number for the baptisms is 1614.

There is also a possibility that they could have been at St Saviour's, which is on fiche no. 1701.

There were a number of non-comformist churches, but these records might be harder to find.

Microfiche can be ordered through the website at www.kfhs.org.uk.
