Hi,
I am doing a one name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information please about the parents, grandparents and siblings of Horace Montague Rossiter born circa 1881 in Lambeth.
He has a brother Arthur Edward Rossiter but I have no further information about him.
Any information would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.
Best wishes

Hello
The 1891 is a bit elusive at the moment.
Are you sure the brother is Arthur Edward rather than Arthur Edgar V. Rossiter (b Dec qtr 1877 Lambeth)? The latter is in Lambeth in 1881, indexed on www.familysearch.org as Arthur E. N. Rossiter - son of Arthur J and Bertha: RG11/600/15/31.
I wonder whether Bertha gave birth to Horace shortly after the 1881 census? His birth was registered in the Apr-Jun quarter.

Hi Anna,
Many thanks for that.
I suspect that Horace Montague Rossiter may have been the son of Edward Rossiter and Marian Eliza Hodges but as he was born after the 1881 Census I cannot prove it.
Edward and Marian also had a son Arthur Edward Rossiter born circa 1873 in Wimborne ,Dorset.
Arthur E N Rossiter was the son of Arthur James Rossiter and Bertha Fowler, who I have as a single child at the moment but you could well be right about them being Horace's parents too.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes

You could be right - but Edward and Marian were still in Dorset with their 5 Dorset-born children in the 1881 census: RG11/2091/35/17
...and Marian seems to have died in Dorset shortly afterwards (Marian Eliza Rossiter aged 31, Jun 1881 Wimborne 5a 182)
All of which makes it look a little unlikely that Marian had made a quick trip to Lambeth in the interim to give birth to Horace

As I mentioned above, this child was registered as Arthur Edgar V. Rossiter. The middle initial " N" in the various 1881 census transcriptions is a mistranscription.

Hi Anna,
Thanks for that.
Looks like you could well be right about Horace's parentage.
Hopefully, this will be confirmed in the 1891 Census.
Best wishes
