I have hired LDS film 0091528 for searching until mid November so if you need a verification of any IGI submitted entries from Horsley's registers between the years 1587 and 1881 or details of burials, post your needs on this chain A.S.A.P please.

Approx date of burial would be a help if you can give or estimate it.

Hi Chas

I live in Southern Spain but will be in the UK at Christmas to visit friends and family AND spend a week researching.

I shall be going to the Glos Records Office - I have looked at the Horsley records there before and recall that they are in quite a bad state and very difficult to read - giving me quite a few headaches!

What is this film like? If it's any better quality I would go to the Bristol LDS for these records instead.

I have quite a connection to Horsley so am very interested in this.

Incidentally, we may possibly have a connection through Phoebe Gazzard who married Thomas Saunders in 1882 in Horsley. I am pretty sure her parents were Joseph Gazzard and Sarah Chandler.

Phoebe is my gggg grandmother.

Hello Len and welcome to the best place there is.

I went to my local LDS FHC this morning in the hope of finding the Horsley or Marshfield film had arrived. No Joy, but was told they should arrive on Thursday. I'll be going again next Tuesday and a film viewer will be booked for me.

In the meantime you'll find some Horsley data via the resource messages index up above. Have you searched Horsley batches at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyGloucester_(A-M).htm#H ?

I have quite a bit of info. on all my family names (just in case!) so I'll have a squint to see what I can find. Any other names from Horsley?

P.S. My Gazard connection is the marriage of a Mary G (b. 1766) to a Benjamin Woodward in 1800.

Yes I have looked through the Horsley batches at some length thanks for the mention though.

I see your name a lot in the resource section. You are very kind in passing on all this data. I will be having a look at those Horsley burials thank you!

Mary Gazard - is she the daughter of Thomas Gazard and Mary Lewis? If yes, her brother Joseph bap 16 Apr 1768 at Shortwood Baptist is my ancestor I am almost certain.

My other Horsley connections are Chandler, Saunders, Sawyer and Young.

When you do get hold of that film I will be very interested to hear what it's like.

Yes, My M.G. d.o. Thomas and Mary was born 17th Nov 1766 according to Shortwood baptist church records along with:- Martha born Oct 12 1760: Samuel born Jan 23 1763 and Joseph born April 16 1768. All the Gazard births are recorded on one page of the register.

I have yet to find and verify Mary's marriage and maiden name which you give as Lewis. Where was that info. found please?

Baptists are not baptized until they are old enough to understand and accept their church's beliefs so the records give birth dates

My Young connection is a Betty Young bap. in Horsley in 1718 d.o. John Young and Hester not yet found and verified. Betty's brothers were Nathaniel bap. 16/11/1721 and Daniel bap. 7/5/1725 I have found and verified no other siblings yet.

I have indeed found and verified the Thomas G X Mary Lewis marriage - the record had been misfiled and I had not updated my FTM family tree before I last printed it.
