*Completed*A couple of CANDY marriages in Victoria?
« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 20:20 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone please help me with a couple more children of William CANDY and Mary SMITH who married in the mid nineteenth century?

I'm interested in Harriet CANDY who married Frank PEPPER in about 1877. What happened to them? Did they have any children?

Also Jeanette CANDY who married George ALEXANDER in about 1876. I have a feeling that she died shortly afterwards, but once again, did they have any children, and did George remarry?

Finally Annie Rose CANDY who married Thomas Henry WHITE in 1893. I think they had a son and a daughter, but I don't know when and where they were born, or died.

Would really appreciate some help with all this.

Thanks so much in anticipation.

A couple of deaths......

Jessie CANDY born COLL aged 9 died in 1858
Ref = 5444

Jessie CANDY born FITZ aged 1 died  in 1866
Ref = 1060

It seems from the first death that William and Mary had at least one child either before they arrived, or who isn't listed.

Many thanks Dee. William and Mary married in Gloucester just a couple of weeks before sailing for Australia. I have the births of all their children (I think) some of them in the NSW registers, but I am working my way through what became of them - mainly the girls as I traced the males some years ago. Clara Jessie married Thomas James PINSENT and now I'm seeking info about three of her sisters.

If you can trace their marriages and any children, it would help me to fill in the gaps.

Thanks again for your help so far.

Many thanks Dee. Death dates would be very welcome. Also, I'm intrigued about what became of Frank and Harriet Pepper.

Best wishes

In 1903 Harriet Pepper, Home Duties, and Frank Pepper, jeweller, are at 67 Cunningham St, Northcote, Victoria.

In 1909 they've moved to 25 Herbert St, St Kilda. They're still there in 1914, 1919 and 1924, this time Frank is said to be a watchmaker.

Then theres' no more listings for Harriet. In 1931, Frank, watchmaker, is alone at 10 Arthur St, Caufield.

Harriet's death  ......

Harriet PEPPER aged 78 died in 1929 at S KILDA
Father was given as Wm Candy & mother as Mary SMITH.
Ref = 7387

Frank PEPPER aged 85 died in 1939 at EWICK
Father was listed as Jno Pepper & mother as Mary  WICKS.
Ref = 7820

I think this is Frank Pepper’s death, but I can’t be sure. There is the death of a Frank Albert Pepper, no age given, in 1944 as well.

Hi

I found what I thought could be a possible marriage for Edith as Mary Edith Candy to James Swan Kidd in 1879 #389 (6 children between 1879 and 1892) Leslie Stuart 1880, Ella Jeanette 1881, Florence Jessie 1883, Edith Murel 1884, Harriett Victoria 1887 & Cleveland James 1892

Then found her death in 1916 #12356 father WILLIAM CANDY and MARY SMITH so here is another twig located.

regards

Robyn
