Sarah Bowers Ardwick

To Manchester Roots Chatters

I have Sarah Bowers born Ardwick Manchester 1862 give or take depending on later census results.
I have two candidates    Manchester 1861 1st quarter 8d 131
         Manchester 1862 4th Quarter 8d 122
I shall send for the Birth Certificate(s) but before that I thought I would ask for some help.
Looking at old maps I see St Saviours and St Silas at Ardwick
I am unable to get to Lancashire to visit Archives and hopefully only one was born in Ardwick has anyone access to Parish Records to get the answer.

Anyone born in Ardwick at this time should have been registered in Chorlton Registration District, not Manchester.  There are no Chorlton registrations for Sarah Bowers 1859-1863 (on Freebmd) so either she wasn't registered atall or she was actually born outside Ardwick.  This doesn't mean that she didn't live in Ardwick from infancy or that she wasn't christened in one of those two churches, but it does mean that the details on the two certs you have identified might not be as straight-forward as you are hoping!

Hi,

Is your Sarah Bowers born Ardwick, the one that is living in Heaton Norris in the later census?
If so, have a look on Cheshire BMDS, there is a Sarah Bowers registered at Heaton Norris in 1861.
Heaton Norris is only a couple of miles away from Ardwick, straight down the main road (now the A6 Stockport Road), so a move from one place to the other in infancy seems feasible.  See what you think:
