Hi, I'm looking for William Powell (British Home Child) b.feb.3,1891,West Derby,Liverpool,Lancashire,England, parents Peter and Mary Disley.  William was placed in foster care through the Church of England Society(Waif and Stay's)  He departed Liverpool, age 18, on the SS Tunisian on June 4, 1909, arrived in Sherbrooke, Quebec on the 12 of June and then from there he was at the Gibbs Home in Sherbrooke, he may of been sent to Western Canada to work on a farm.  But that is where we can last place him is in Sherbrooke, any help will be greatly appreciated.

With regard to William Powell b. Liverpool.
On the 1916 Western Provinces census there are 2 possibilities.  The William Powell in Edmonton East Alberta shows a Scottish heritage whereas the William Powell in Argyle Assiniboia Saskatchewan shows an English heritage.  That one is born 1891, immigration year 1907 and he is working in the household of David Maitland as a servant.

In the burial section of this link there is a William Powell's death in 1967 in Waldron.

There is an online ancestry tree with William Powell and parents Peter and Mary (nee Disley).  Associated with it is a 1923 border crossing record from Canada to the US at Detroit.  However I don't think it is accurate as it shows his birth in Birmingham, England, and his destination as his brother Wilford in Nyandotte(?).

I did not see anyone with that name and birth date with a Canadian Attestation Paper:

I do not see anyone with that name and birth date on WWI American Draft Reg cards.

You noted on another site that you cannot find other boys who immigrated with him.  If you would like to list a couple of the more uncommon names, we could have a look to see if we can find them?  (Providing you come back to this site, of course.)  Wink  Maybe if we can find the other boys, your William might be in the same area.

Don't see a Thomas Rabitts
Lawrence Kempton is in Quebec http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=125357

Because he was older he might have been in another category once he arrived

Here is Walter Sparrow, also Richmond-Wolfe Que.

Ernest still in Sherbrook
http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=129812

I see lots of William Powells of similar age, and even with right date of immigration on the 1911....but none have right birth date, so no way to prove it is they...
