Connor/Workman
« on: Wednesday 07 October 09 15:55 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for a marriage record for a Henry CONNOR/CONNER/O'CONNOR to a Miss WORKMAN.  At least 3 of their sons went to the USA prior to the Revolutionary War.  Their names were Charles, Paul, and Henry CONNOR/CONNER.  This would have been from 1771-1776.  Charles CONNOR was a ship master who ran a ship from County Antrim to America.  Henry CONNOR and Miss WORKMAN, the parents would have married about 1750-1760.  When their sons came to America they were Presbyterians.  They settled in Lincoln County, NC but may have gone to Virginia first.  On  Paul and Henry's tombstone, it says that they came to America from County Antrim.  I am looking for a marriage record for their parents Henry CONNOR and Miss WORKMAN and for any cemetery record.  I have also been wondering if their is a cemetery record for them. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Rootschat. I've split your post from someone else's marriage lookup thread as it's nothing to do with it.
The information you are looking for will be extremely difficult to find given that you are talking about records for the 1700s.
Very few church records would go back that far (if such records were even made at the time they might no longer survive).
Civil registration in Ireland started in mid-1800s so no birth, death or marriage certificates. Census records also started in 1800s (and very few bits of the early ones survive- 1st complete census for Ireland is 1901).
If the family were Presbyterian in Ireland, as seems likely, there are several places they could have been buried: Presbyterian churchyard (many won't go back this far), Church of Ireland graveyard or other local graveyard used by several denominations. If there was a headstone there is a good possibilty that it either is illegible or no longer survives.

Thanks for your help!  I just recently went to Ireland on a 12 day tour of Ireland and was in County Antrim as well as other counties in Ireland.  I went to the library in Belfast and they referred me to the Ulster Historical Foundation and to Public Record Office of Northern Ireland.  I did not have time or transportation to get to the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland but have noticed that it is online.  I was wondering if a researcher could help me with this.  It is a little puzzling to find out where to look since two families the DOAK and CONNOR family both came to America very early on.  The DOAK family came as early as 1700-1720 and first settled in PA then latter Virginia.  Thanks again fro any help.

It is often the case that records in America will give you far more detail than what will actually be available in Ireland. Have you checked local histories in the area where the families settled (although beware of ones that might have embellished the truth a bit or filled in gaps with stories that have no firm basis in fact)?
