RAF General Service Medal confusion!
« on: Wednesday 07 October 09 18:11 UTC (UK) »

I have a Squadron Leaders sevice record and also a set of dress medals, now my query is that he was awarded the GSM w/c Palestine Annual Filming Feb 1944
but there is no mention on his service record that he was there other than in the miscellaneous section.
The medal in the dress set in fact has the Queen's head on it but he has a clasp for Cyprus for 1955,
So my question is did he have a GSM with the King's head on originally and that was returned when he was awarded the clasp?
Thanks
Terry

When you say "dress set" do you mean full size or miniatures?

If one is issued a medal, one keeps that, and if one qualifies for another, that is kept....Now, the ribbon on both the QEII and GRVI GSM is the same, so he should have both clasps or both medals...

They are the miniature ones, which a step daughter retained after he and his wife died, don't know whether the full size ones exist within the family as there has been no contact as yet, but living in hope of locating them sometime, the rest of the family I mean.
