Hi
I have spent some time tracing the movements of an elusive sibling of my paternal grand father and may have made a break through with details of three electoral roll listings, a death certificate and cemetery records being discovered yesterday.
I would appreciate help with the following listings:
Eugene Keppel 1903, 1909, 1919 in Victoria
The details of occupation and address would be appreciated.
Also is there any other Keppel listing at any of the addresses for Eugene.
Many thanks for any assistance with this matter.

Hi JeannieR
Many thanks for such detailed information in just over one hour after my posting.
The information you have provided for me answers a number of questions, and par for the course, creates some new ones as on his death certificate he is recorded as married. Perhaps his wife has stayed in Ireland as I cannot find any trace of him or a wife in the New Zealand registered births or deaths. So far I have failed to find his arrival in New Zealand or departure for Australia.
Once again I very much appreciate this wonderful respose from you.
Regards

Do you know his wife's name please so we could search for her ? If she was in Australia that is
Where and when did he die and what cemetery is he buried in please, all helps
There were a number of Keppel's from Cork who married and died in Victoria, so I am wondering if he came to join other extended family members.
There is this death in Victoria which may be of some interest to you
KEPPEL Johanna died aged 74 in 1922 at Richmond reg no 6822 father Micheal OSullivan mother Margaret Bailey

Hi Jenn
Thanks for the information you have posted for this line of inquiry.
I do not have any knowledge of Eugene's wife. It was when I viewed his death certificate on line that I saw that he was recorded as married.
I have traced his burial to the Springvale Botanical Cemetery on 27 March 1919 and his burial was authorised by a Sergeant of Police from the Kew Police Station.
I have traced his admission to the Kew Asylum on 22 February 1919 and his death on 25 March 1919. His admission records that he was born in Ireland, a Roman Catholic and married.
Are there any other Electoral Rolls available for on line viewing between 1886 and those already viewed for 1903 1914 and 1919?

Hi JeannieR
From the Mallow Heritage Centre, I have Eugene baptised on 24 November 1845. His death on 25 March 1919 is recorded as aged 74. If these two events relate to the same person then I would consider this variance of nine months acceptable. Eugene as the 5th child and 2nd son born in the Newmarket Parish in County Cork and the place of birth was most problem near Meelin which is close to Newmarket.
I also have records from Mallow of three baptisms for children born to Eugene Kepple and Margaret Fitzgerald. The first was John on 17 February 1873, the second Daniel on 31 December 1873 and the third was Catherine on 27 July 1875. Eugene and Margaret were living in the vicinity of where my great grand father was living. His name was John and his wife was Catherine, the same names as the first boy and girl born to Eugene.
My father had an elder sibling Eugene who was born on 12 November 1891 and sadly only lived for nine months.
I would be most interested to hear about the marriage record you mention.
I am in regular contact with three descendants of some of those mentioned in the electoral rolls. They come from families whose ancestors were possibly brothers of my great grandfather John.
Once again Jeannie, many thanks for you valuable information.

Hi JeannieR
Your mention of a marriage between Eugene and Margaret is very interesting. The Eugene I am tracking was married to a Margaret in Co Cork and after he had been imprisoned a number of times for involvement in "The troubles" he left her and three children and never returned. He was believed to be living a "rough diamond" existence and a son Daniel left to join him.
Do you have the details of the place and date etc of that marriage or can you give me a reference to follow up on.
With you mentioning a Margaret and a Daniel and my contact with family connections who lives near Meelin County Cork mentioning the same names, the marriage details you have seen maywell confirm that at long last Eugene and his resting place have been found.
Once again many thanks for the wonderful information.
Regards

Hi JeannieR
Many thanks for that marriage information. I shall purchase a copy of the marriage certificate to ascertain who is recorded as the father of Eugene and details of the witnesses.
I shall also be in contact relative who still owns one of the original family farm cottages and has consider knowledge about the Keppel families of Meelin.
I also note with interest the location of the Chapel, as my paternal grandmother, and sister in law of Eugene was Nancy O'Callaghan from Kiskeam.
