Pontrhythallt, Local help needed!
« on: Wednesday 07 October 09 19:05 UTC (UK) »

Hi - Im new on here & wondered if anyone could help me?

Ive been doing a family tree for my friend & have come across a stumbling block - on a marriage certificate i have from 1923, the bride is listed as living:

Brynpistyll, Pontrhythallt

her father is down as a Farmer, family name is Pritchard

Now I know nothing of the area so was wondering if anyone knew about the place - is Brynpistyll a farm name?
I cannot find it on any other census years.
Hoping someone can help
Carrie

Hi

If you google it - it will come up its in the general area of Llanrug, which is about 5 miles from Caernarfon.  There's seems to be loads of stuff on it.
Can't help much more though I'm sorry

Pontrhythallt is an area adjacent to a bridge over the river Rhythallt. Pont being the welsh word for bridge. The river at this point forms the boundary between the parishes of Llanrug and Llanddeiniolen. I would be more inclined to look for the property on the Llanddeiniolen side.

Thanks - have located Pontrhythallt now -
I cant find any reference to the Farm name so presume it is long gone or called something else!
Best I get searching for the Pritchard family name from the 1920's

thanks again  Smiley

You'll find Bryn Pistyll on page 16, District 11, Llanddeiniolen on the 1901 census. There are no Pritchard's in the house at this time but there are some in adjacent properties
