« on: Wednesday 07 October 09 21:03 UTC (UK) »

Was anybody else as disappointed as I was not to have found relatives on 1911 census? what possible reason for a husband and wife to be missing ? any ideas welcomed.Thank you

Mis-transcription is the usual one - thousands of them

If their surname began with L then look under S. The transcribers mistook a copperplate capital L for an S; hence Langford frequently became Sangford etc.

I have looked everywhere to find my relatives on 1911 census no luck, so I have come to the conclusion that some people may not have returned any census . has anyone else despaired of finding relatives.

I think that is less likely than transcription error

set us a challenge! names, birthdates and place of birth please!

Thank you so much for offer. Frederick Charles (also known as Charles) Allsopp Married to Alice Ruth (Fellows). Frederick born 1883 Staffordshire, Alice born 1887 Sedgley.  Married in 1908 and  were living in Wolverhampton maybe around the Wednesfield area. Any search appreciated

if you search on Ruth Allsop (incl variants on the surname) living with Fred, you get 2 possibles
ALLSOP ALICE F 1888 23 living Tamworth Staffordshire
ALLSOP ALICE F 1885 26 living Aston Warwickshire
change it to living with Charles and you get
ALLSOP ALICE F 1888 23 Tamworth Staffordshire
ALLSOP ALICE F 1885 26 Aston Warwickshire

on that basis, I'd first look at the Tamworth entry, but I don't have any credits-anyone?

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be any of these, or any other variation of Alice Allsopp born about 1887, living anywhere.

I too would suspect transcription errors, but it's hard to know what else to try

Interestingly, FMP searches time out a lot quicker than www.1911census ones if you make the search too wide.

Thank you so much for all that searching, I was hoping you would have more luck than me, it has cost me a fortune in looking up wrong ones.(They had no children together)  Alice ruth had a daughter in 1905 no mention of father, her name was Alice May  Fellows,  I have found her living with her Grandmother Elizabeth Fellows on the 1911 census at Neachell Lane Wednesfield. Thanks again for any help.

It would be on the same census, but on another location, possibly a return submitted from an overseas unit if he was posted abroad.

Go to the 1911 census site, click Counties available, Overseas Military Establishments are on that page along with all the counties, the Channel Islands, and Royal Naval ships etc. Good luck.
