One thing missed on the BD (1937ptn) is that he has an "arm of service" strip (infantry) on his sleeve, so deffo not an Army Cadet!

A lot of youngsters looked just that...Blimey....I did...One of the reasons so many squaddies have a tash...To get a drink!

The Restoration board would work wonders for your pics by the way....Just "don't give them your name Pike" Wink Grin

One more charge and then be dumb,

May the victors when they come

I think...If I'm correct and he was there....that Anzio rather aged him...

Your second pic has him in an Aertex shirt (I have an original) with the Div patches on.

The Coloured Field Service Cap was in the gift of the CO whilst in the Regt/bn...Some Regts wore them as a matter of course, but for many they did not come in until late 1943.

They had been worn in various forms from the 1880s, and were redefined in 1937 as a universal plain khaki one.

The CFSC was worn when on detachment to retain the Regt identity and pride which soldiers have instilled in them from day one

It was the Regts themselves that kept the "traditions" going with colours. My dad was issued (hmmm private purchase I expect!) a plain black Northamptonshire one...A tradition that went back to Wolfe!
