I thought that you might like to know that there is an Online Parish Clerk for Stoke Lane.

Best to enter, "Online Parish Clerk, Stoke Lane" into Google and you will get the contact details etc. She will be able to see if she has any details on her database.

Did you have any information from Reuben's death certificate?

Hi Jo,
I have not received it yet.  I sent off a letter to Somerset and they in turn referred me to an online certificate request site.   Will let you know when I do.
Thanks for the Stoke info - invaluable - will contact them now.

reg. by Mary Parfitt by her mark, present at the death, resident of Stoke Lane
reg. 29 January 1848 by Henry Nuth

The only thing I may be able to chase up is the Chelsea pensions info.
I so badly wanted to know if Mary was his wife or his daughter but no luck.

Hello Sharon,

You might be in luck. The First Regiment of Foot Guards was/is the Grenadier Guards I think. I have a good idea that they have an archive and information going back on people who served with them. They have a museum too I suspect. A post on the Military Board might yield more assistance with this.

Did you contact the Online Parish Clerk for Stoke Lane? She may well be able to help from information in her database.

Hi Jo,
The online parish clerk for Stoke Lane has one of those email addresses on an automatic link from the site.  For some reason I don't have the right email connection and I cannot get through.  (new computer on order by the way).   I emailed the moderator of the Somerset list asking for the direct email address but no luck so far.
