Marriage entry St Nicholas Brighton
« on: Friday 09 October 09 05:25 UTC (UK) »

Could anyone tell me if it is possible to get a photocopy or somesuch from the parish register of a wedding that took place 28th October 1866 at St Nicholas Church Brighton between Patrick Higgins and Ann Elizabeth Woodhams, the reason for this request is that I want to compare the signature of Patrick in that entry with another document I have received. I have a copy of the marriage entry I received from the GRO but all the details are by the same hand. Would dearly love to get the entry myself but a 12,000 mile journey is a bit too far.
Thank You Dennis

Hi Dennis,
Are you near an LDS centre where you are in Oz?  If you are, you could order the film for that parish & date & check it yourself  Smiley  To my knowledge the record centres where the actual parish registers are kept have them on microfiche.  If you want to look at the actual register to clarify something you would have to make that request in person.  I also doubt whether they would allow a photo copy of the original page...but I could be wrong. Maybe someone is going to the East Sussex RO & could ask for you?  Having said all that, there are copying machines that can print-out an image from fiche so all might not be lost  Wink

Might be worth trying Brighton History Centre to see if they have copies and can send you something.  It is very easy to take a photograph of the fiche entry - at least I can do that at home and I only have a very basic fiche reader.    I wonder if ESRO sell the fiche?   West Sussex do.  For £2.50 you can get a fiche covering 5 years or so of a particular parish then take it to your local library to view.
