I wonder whether some one would be kind enough take a look at the 1861 census for Chorlton on Medlock and see whether they can locate this couple and also any children who may be living with them.
William Slater born about 1815 Scrayingham. Yorkshire Judith or Jane Slater born about 1819 Kenilworth, Warwickshire
In 1851 they are living at 100 Upper Rumford Street, Chorlton on Medlock and in 1871 they are living at what I think looks like 8 Plymouth Grove. Chorlton on Medlock.
Despite searching using every spelling alternative I can think of I have been unable to locate them in 1861.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you CJL

Hello
Have a look at Coventry RG9/2206 Folio 87 Page 18 for the surname transcribed as Haler (on Ancestry).
It looks like William, Judith and Fanny Slater, to me, on the original census image, from the correct birth places and William is a Ribbon Manufacturer.
What do you think ?

IGI batch C042991 shows Judith Manton was born on 9th June 1819 (christened on 7th November 1819) at Kenilworth, Her parents were John and Mary Manton. The same batch includes some other siblings.

Hi Posteria and Su,
Thank you both so much, I think you have both found my missing family on the 1861 census. William's occupation in 1851 was a ribbon salesman and in 1871 a manufacturer of ribbons, and on the 1851 census one of their children was called Fanny - I just need to find the other children now.
Of all the possible connotations of the surname Slater, I would never have thought to search for Haler - although looking at the original image, I can see why it might have been transcribed as Haler. A big thank you to you both and I am mightily impressed with your searching skills!!
I had found the marriage in 1866 in Coventry of a Fanny Slater, fathers name William on the igi, but did not have any evidence that it was the same Fanny Slater because the marriage took place in Coventry and my family appeared to be living in Chorlton On Medlock, thanks to both of you I am now fairly sure that it is the same Fanny Slater.
I did have the information from the igi of Judith's christening and her marriage to William and also the 1841 census information, but thank you for taking the trouble to look for the information for me.
Best Wishes CJL
