Anyone going to PRONI? - COMPLETED
« on: Friday 09 October 09 21:28 UTC (UK) »

Hello, I'm hoping to find a gracious soul to kindly do a lookup at PRONI for me.  I just found the following Letter of Adminstration entry for my g-g-g-g-grandfather on a PRONI Will search.  Here are the details:

Forename: Peter
Surname: Kearney
Date of Death 23/11/1889
Date of Grant: 29/10/1890
Effects: 134/13s/5d
Registry: Armagh
Full Abstract:
Letters of Administration (with the Will annexed) of the personal estate of Peter Kearney late of Newry County Armagh night Watchman who died 23 November 1889 at same place were granted at Armagh to Catherine Kearney of Edward-street Newry the Widow and the Universal Legatee.

I'm not sure what else might be contained in the document(s).

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

The original Will and paperwork does not survive- see here for explanation of Will Books on PRONI website-

Michael,
I do not think that you will find any further records regarding the wills as most were lost or destroyed in the 1915-1922s. However I found a record of a Peter Kearney who married Catherine Cusack on 16 Apr 1882 in Armagh R.C. church.

Will Books contain copies of the Will transcribed before the originals were lost. See PRONI link given above.

Thank you very much John!  Here is a little more information on the family.  Peter Kearney and Catherine Larkin married c. 1860 in or around the Aghaderg Parish in Down.  Catherine (nee Larkin) Kearney died 3-March-1903 and was residing on Ardilea Street in Belfast.  One of their sons, Peter Jr (b. 1858 Aghaderg Parish) married Anne Kavanagh (b. Tyrone) in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Newry on 11-August-1885.  Peter Jr died 25-August-1906 in Newry while residing on Canal Street.  I'm not sure what ever happened to Anne (nee Kavanagh) Kearney nor do I know where any of the family are buried.

Best regards,
Michael
