Looking for info on a British officer I. or J. Walmouth, ca.1805
« on: Saturday 10 October 09 04:18 UTC (UK) »

Hello, I recently acquired this sword, blade of which bears the family crest of a Walmouth family, of Lancashire, according to Fairbairn's Book of Crests.
In addition to the crest, the blade is also decorated with the initials J.W. or I.W.

Unfortunately, I cannot find anything on the officer or his family on the web, which to me is extremely surprising. Judging by the quality of the sword, ordered specifically for or by the officer, it must have been a very expensive piece in its time. Sword was made by one of the foremost English cutlers of the time, Henry Osborn, ca.1803-1808. It's a British 1803 Pattern officer's sword.

Any information on the owner or the Walmouth family would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps you can point me to a researcher who could help, as I am not located in the UK.

Thank you in advance.
