Hi Burrod  Smiley

Do you have anything more specific to go on? Is your family John born Alston ca. 1857 with wife Hannah M?

Do you already have him in 1881?

Hi
There is a very interesting article about Alston on Wikip' and says that Alston has its own website so you might be able to find some names of the 1800's on there. Also interesting is that it has always been in Cumbria/Cumberland due to being goverened from Carlisle. Also, it had at one time a lot of publicity because there was a ratio of 17 men to every woman there and they advertised for women to go live there.
Worth a read as well as the great history it has from about 2000bc.

Hi

Do you have the Reverend George Kindred who married Margaret Walton 2Q 1878 Alston, who emigrated to Canada and died in Seattle?

Extracted marriage from the IGI (www.familysearch.org)

Thomas Kindred - Jane Snowden
5 May 1850 Alston, Cumberland
(GRO reference Jun 1850 Alston volume 25 page 1)

1841 is trickier because there are 2 Thomas Kindred who could fit the bill. Age-wise I much prefer the second one but I reckon it would be safer to get Thomas' marriage cert to confirm his father's name:

1841
HO107/171/10 8 9
Alston, Cumberland

Leonard Kindred, 65, Farmer
Leonard, 25, L Miner
Thomas, 20, L Miner
George, 20, L miner
Isabella, 18
All born in county

1841
HO107/171 7 5 5
Alston, Cumberland

John Kindred, 55, Ag lab
Elizabeth, 50
John, 25
Thomas, 15
All born in county

I think the elder Thomas KINDRED married Elizabeth GREEN in 1842.
