Maria Cook born Guestling, Sussex 10.10.1814. Her marriage cert in Australia lists her parents as Daniel Cook and Sarah Edwards. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Kerry

Hi again
Been trying to find a marriage of Daniel and Sarah Edwards prior to 1814 - but nothing comes up on the Sussex Marriage Index which is pretty comprehensive for Sussex.
I notice from the census we have Daniel born in Icklesham (right next door to Guestling); Sarah is born in Udimore and daughter Sarah is born in Guestling; and of course Maria was born in Guestling - so it should have been in that area
I will keep looking

Hi
The 1841 census shows them living in Icklesham as shown:
Cook Dannel, 55, Ag Lab Sarah, 50 Charles, 20 Edward, 15 Mary, 13 Dannel, 10 Sarah, 8 All born in county of Sussex
No sign of a marriage yet though

Hi Chris in 1066Land,
Thank you for the info. The Daniel and Sarah you have found seem to be the right ages and in the right place at the right time. I made a mistake in my first inquiry - Maria was actually married in Sussex (not Australia) to James Selmes, not sure when but their first 3 children were born in Guestling - Alfred 1834, James Daniel 1835 and Harriett 1838. They the came to Australia and had 10 more chidren!! I really appreciate your help Cheers Kerry

Hi Chris in 1066Land and Swebby,
This is amazing, I can't believe my luck. Thank you so much. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. Somewhere in our ancestors 'someone' said that Daniel Cook was a grand nephew of Captain James Cook (perhaps this was someone's 'romantic' Australian) notion but we have always wondered if there is some distant connection somewhere. Thanks again for your wonderful help. Cheers, Kerry
