Hi Anthony

What does he give for his birthplace and occupation/employment on the 1911 census http://www.1911census.co.uk/

What information does he give on his marriage certificate ie. age/address/occupation/name & occupation of father/names of witnesses?

All these little bits just might give a clue somewhere - there are a lot more resources readily availble than there were in 1989.

If you pay to see the image it should tell you where he was born and his employment at the time.  I have played around with the index and he comes up as born London but there may be something else as well as London - have you looked?

Have you seen the actual marriage certificate ie. what does it say about his father Huh

Does it actually say sailor on the marriage certificate rather than mariner?  Sailor would usually signify Royal Navy whilst mariner would usually signify Merchant Navy - not foolproof but possibly a clue.  Do you know within the family whether he was Royal Navy or Merchant Navy ie. what kind of work did he do?

Is there any particular reason why you have posted on the Kent boards Huh

Sorry so many questions but there are often clues out there - we just need to ascertain what they may be.

hi

i have not seen the marrage certificate as we can not fined it in my uncles papers
the family say sailor but will check with family

the family think that he may be from spain or italy as his middle name's
are (michael angelo) the painter Huh

i have posted it on kent boad as when i started to look for him i did a wide census for alfred and a margaret and searched  and it came up with 5or 6
alfred sparrows in and around kent also margaret laybourne parker was in same as alfred when i did a wide search

we do not know there birth dates but my mother said  that margaret died at the age of over 70 and that she is in blaydon grave yard i will have to go and have a look

hi claire

can you tell me if alfred has a second name/s

as i have looked on ancestry and can only fined a marrage for
alfred michael a sparrow to a margaret laybourne parker in 1909
the 1909 is right margaret is right
alfred with the middle names i can not fined in london or all census records

we think that he must of been baptised before they married
