Hi,

The best idea I can come up with is that he was born Alfred Herbert but baptised Alfred Angelo, he would
also have to be fibbing about his age in 1911, maybe because his wife is so much younger Undecided

Henry SPARROW
Spouse:  Alicia Mallandain HIGGINS
Marriage:  17 APR 1864   Saint Anne Soho, Westminster

Birth
Alfred Herbert SPARROW    Dec Q 1874     Westminster    1a  463

Christening
Alfred Angelo SPARROW
Christening:  29 Oct 1874   Saint Mary Soho, Westminster
Father:  Henry SPARROW
Mother:  Alicia

1881  RG11/124  f.17  p.27  St James, London
6 Marlborough Row

Alicia M SPARROW  Head  W  42  Shirt Maker        Middlesex St Anne Westminster
George E                Son  U  15  Cord Rorter? (unemployed)    "    "    "
Alfred H                 Son        7   Scholar                            "    "    "
Louisa B                Daur       6    Scholar                            "    "    "
Amy E                  Daur        4    Scholar                            "    "   "

Still trying to find Alfred in 1891 and 1901.

Do you have his marriage certificate to verify his father's name?

Does anyone else think the above is a possibility?

Regards
Daisy

Hi,

I can see this death registration which seems to fit,

Alfred M A SPARROW    age:65    Mar Q 1942    Durham S.E.    10a  158

so this would give a DOB of 1876/1877.

Yes his marriage certificate should, hopefully, confirm the name & occupation of his father.  You can always buy a copy online for £7.

Quote
untill he went to the army

When and where was this?

just had a phone call from my mother to say that her mother/father methodist
and that alfred and margaret were methodist
she told me that there is a methodist chapel in blaydon on tyne
and that she thinks that alfred and margaret must have married there in 1909
alfred has always been a methodist

I am the niece of Margaret Sparrow (nee Parker), who I remember well and daughter Dorothy (in  wheelchair).  Their son Alfred stayed with my parents in London in 1939/40. I don't know if this is helpful, but but I understood that Margaret and her sister visited their aunt who ran a boarding house for captains, where they both met their husbands.  I always understood Alfred was Italian, which he spoke.  I am researching the Parker side, if anyone can help.  My father knew Alfred well.

Anthony - Elizabeth Parker's maiden name was Gray.  Yr mother's mother  must be my cousin.  What is her name?
