Hello
I have found a bapt online for a Richard Sumner ch 19 Apr 1835 mother Jane Sumner. Can anyone help me find out which church it would have been in? I didn't think there was a church in Maghull until later than that. Just been to Liverpool and they said that Maghull was 'too far out' and they dont hold those records.
Can anyone help me out?
Also Richard was brought up by his mother Jane and her hubby James Yates whom she married just after Richard's birth. When Richard married he called himself Richard Sumner but on all censuses and his childrens bapt he is Richard Yates. His daughter later marries and despite being bapt and reg as Ellen Yates she marries as Ellen Sumner? ?? Any ideas why she may have done this?

I think you're right and the Running Horses pub and the Weld Blundell in Lydiate were also run by some of my Sumner family too.

I cant be sure and i've not come across the name Perry yet......
I have 2 Sumner families one was Richard and Ellen Sumner who farmed in Ainsdale with family bapt in St Peter, Formby between 1808-1830 and the other was Robert and Dorothy Sumner who farmed in Lydiate and seemed to be in the beer trade around the canal bank. R + D appear on censuses 1841 publican, 1851 beerseller and farmer of 15 acres, 1861 beerseller and farmer of 8 acres and just Dorothy on 1871 beerseller and farmer of 8 acres at the Running Horses pub. R + D only had 3 children, James became a publican, John a butcher and Elizabeth married an Aspinwall. It's a pretty common name in the area though so there could have been other farms. You seem to know the area well enough? If you can come up with any more clues i'll try and help
