1861 and 1871 address find
« on: Saturday 10 October 09 17:09 UTC (UK) »

Hello

Can anyone help find please a William Cox on the 1861 and 1871 census.  He was on electoral registers in 1861 and 1871 Sheffield.  His address in 1861 was given as one Little Blackfields and in 1871 it was given as Carlisle Street or  51 Cemetary Road.

Many thanks for any help in locating him on these 2 censuses.

Ewan, when was William born, did he have a wife and what was his occuptaion.

1871 Census
There are 3 Cemetery Roads:
1.  Cemetery Road, Attercliffe Cum Darnell - does not go up to No.51
2.  Cemetery Road, Ecclesall -  only goes up to No. 10
3. Cemetery Road, Ecclesall Bierlow - far too many to go through

1861
Nothing coming up for Little Blackfields

Thanks for the replies of help.

The William I am looking for was born in Birmingham about 1837 give or take 5 years.

The Cemetary Road one looks interesting as his family did live in the Ecclesall Bierlow area, as there are too many to go through I will have a look when I get to my local library next week, but thanks for pointing this one out to me.

As for Little Blackfields I will have to look into that address again.

Ewan

Forgot to say he would not have been married for any of these censuses, so I am looking for an unmarried man Shocked.  If you know what I mean.

Cathy, you could be correct the 2 Williams are living with their wives and children on the 1861 and 1871 censuses as you say they are from Sheffield and also married, I'll keep that information though in case anything connects later.

Hugh, I have not been able to look at the 1861 image RG09 3472 95/38 that you mention are you saying then that the address reads as 1 Cross Back Fields and not 1 Little Blackfield?  I am just wondering if there was another William Cox living at an address known as Cros Back Fields, although it does look like it could be the same address.

Can anyone now help to find a William Cox living at Carlisle Street on the 1871 census please?

Help again much appreciated.

Yes it does. I think that Cathy's reading of it was influenced by the address you quoted from the Electoral Register, which I think is likely to be wrong in some way - I have not come across a 'Blackfields'. If I get the chance I will check the Register in the library here in Sheffield.
