Have you ever wondered
« on: Saturday 10 October 09 17:55 UTC (UK) »

If somewhere out there somebody has a photo of one of your dear relations.?I have never seen or seen a photo of my grandmother. She married in America in 1910,came back to England the year after had two children, returnedlate 1914 and died there Jan 1915.My grandfather returned to England and then was killed in the WarIwonder if the relations they went to ever had aphoto of her.I traced the family until the 1930 census records in Worcester and I even think  I found one relation in Rhode Island=========== but how can I get any closer I just don't know how to go about it.
To discover  a photo would be marvellous!!!!!

The family names are Taylor then branching off to Lee and Bergeron

Hi Dotty,

Don't ever give up looking would be my reply.  My mum or I had never ever seen a photograph of my gt, gt grandad.  I always wondered what he looked like.  I knew he had an involvement in local politics and posted a thread:-

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,396170.0.html

When I posted it I thought it was far too boring a subject to get any replies and was astonished at the response.  The Rootschatters never let you down.  I learnt a lot and you will see from the final posts that I got my picture.  I was overjoyed and I can't tell you how pleased I was to show it to my mum.

So keep doing everything you can think of and don't give up as you never know what is around the corner.

Best wishes,

 Cheesy

Luzzu

PS.  Have you done an appeal for information on the United States board or maybe a letter to the Editor of the newspaper for the right area?

I never knew what my great grandparents looked like, then one day I found my dad's cousin, visted her and discovered that she had a copy of her parents marriage photo(1925).

On there was my dad aged 1,being held by my grandma(I'd never seen a pic of my dad younger than 9 before) my grandad and all his 6 siblings and their parents- FABULOUS  Grin Grin Grin

A copy of it now takes pride of place in my dining room.

Hi Dotty.

Perhaps if you give the information included in the first paragraph, this time giving your grandmother's full maiden name as well as full married name, your grandfather's full name and  where they were married in America someone may find this post on a google search.  Many of us do that if we have pictures with names on them of people we don't recognize. ( the google search that is  Wink  )

I assume one of your parents was their child?  How did the children get back to England?? Someone in America must have taken care of them after their mother died?  Do you have their names it should be safe to post those names as well.  If you do perhaps their descendants have pictures they don't recognize?

Who knows, it might just pay off and is a good easy first step.

Herbert Taylor sailed to America in July 1910.Agnes Schofield ,daughter of David Bottomley Schofield and Frances Sefton, sailed in the October. They married early November. She gave her uncle's  William Taylor  address where she was going to stay. This was 30 Lichfield Street Worcester Mass.I haven't made the like on the Taylor side ,this may just be coincidence with the surname.William was a widower and had married Elizabeth North[nee Bottomley Schofield. They had three children Esther Lillian  m  J wally?  Lee,Elizabeth F married Arthur Bergeron and William married Alida ?. On the 1930 census Elizabeth and Arthur had two sons Kenneth T and Rexford A, they were living in Holden Street Worcester ,,,also in that street lived Esther with her husband and children Robert,Jane,James.Donald and William.William s was living in Southbridge Street with his wife and children Alida l ,Bertha C . Norma B and William jnr.It will be descendents of this families who might have a photo.
Herbert and Agnes returned to England in 1911 because my g Grandfather was dying They returned 30th October 1914 they had put Tom Smith 10 Pleasant Street  Easthampton Mass as were they were going to stay.Herbert had previously stayed with Isaac Hibbs ,361 Davies Street New Bedford Mass.
A bonus would be of a photo of Elizabeth North[nee Schofield],but I am being greedy now
Sorry to be long winded

Hello again Dotty.

I am afraid I forgot to mention that we are not to give the names of people who may still be living.  It would be best if you were to ammend your post leaving only the names of people it is reasonable to assume are no longer alive.

Me too I am lucky that I have her details from the passenger list when she sailed to America so I know how tall she was and the colour of her eyes and hair.I have this vision of her being something like my mum in looks but then I would more than likely be wrong

I'm hooked on it as well almost addicted,I started about six years ago and gradually the info on the net keeps coming through, just weeks ago the deaths cert appeared up to 1915 for Mass.USA and I was able to complete the record for my Grandma except for that photo.
I do look ups on a regular basis from Rootschats subscribers  on the Lancashire board and get much satisfaction from being able to help others .What years are you researching for your Gran

I've got a lot of those as well but know none of them are my grandma. When my parents died I found loads of photos and because I didn't know anyone on them I threw them away. There is now an album sorted with names on to be passed down.
I got up today and thought that's it the letter is being sent to the local paper in America fingers crossed I might get some response.
