This is a superb site which sets out details of all sorts of events that happened in the North East of England during the period of the Second World War (1939 to 1945).

Nice to know what was going on the year I was born. Funnily enough i still have the old 78 of Hoagy Carmichael and the Old Music Master that was my mothers. The things as old as me it seems and probably worth a lot more.

Sounds like a classic track Catswhiskers - can I get it on CD or download an MP3 version?

We have quite a good collection of old 78s, everybody seemed to have been a record fan. The oldest is an Al Jolson from 1928, and just about every dance band that ever played, including Glenn Miller. These were allegedly swapped with American troops stationed near my uncles RAF camp. I have Elvis's Blue Suede Shoes on 78 rpm
