Hi,   The surname is Lydon, I believe this is fairly common in some areas of Galway, but despite a lot of
searching on various Irish web sites, I have been unable to find 'Salby', I think this was on his birth cert.
Many thanks, I appreciate your help

Hi MIGKY,
Thanks for that, I might well take up your kind offer if I find anything conclusive. Through my searching
for Salby,  I noticed that Moycullen seemed to have a few Lydon's, unfortunately I don't know the
gr gr grandparents christian names, but maybe one day.
              Thanks

I also know another rootschater in the USA with Lydon's in Galway and Moycullen. If you find you might have some  around there, let me know and will give her a bell for you.

Would you have the name and approx date of birth?

Any other details might help us pin it down.

Salby might be an unofficial name of a townland so would not be able to pin point with that.

I had a situation before where all the records gave address as Grousehall. But the actually official name was Knockrower.

Would he be in Ireland in 1911 Census? Have you his marriage certificate?

Hi Ger.
Name- - - Joseph Lydon, I have him on the Scottish census 1901, spouse was Scottish, married with 3 children
aged 27, occupation- - Second Mate Rye Navy, he subsequently became a Coastguard officer, I think he died in
1927, Anglesey, Wales.  The name Salby Co. Galway came via another relative, and I have no idea where she
obtained that from, maybe a birth cert. I guess that should be my next move, I would then find the name of his parents. Thanks for your interest.

I think getting the marriage of Joseph Lydon would be your best option in Civil Registration Records i presume this occupier in UK.

From this you will know what church, father name, occupations etc.

Also you will know what parish records to check and you could check parish records for the marriage which should have parents names of both bride and groom.

Then you would a good chance of finding him in Galway.

If the marriage took place in Scotland the marriage certificate will give more details than Irish certificates (see Scotland's People website for what will be on marriage certificate and how to putchase credits to view the actual certificate).

Hi, Took your advice and found Joseph's marriage record with Scotlandspeople, so now know his parents
names, although both deceased by then, so back to Ireland for deaths !  Many thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Hi Migky, Can I take up your offer, I have found out that Gr. Grandparents--Michael and Mary Lydon, were both
deceased by 1892,when their son married,   I am also looking into the possibilities of a Martin Joseph Lydon
born 1871 in Galway, dying in Guthrie,Iowa,USA in 1968, and wondered if he had any connection to the Rootschatter you know in the States, as he could be a brother of Joseph.
                       Many thanks
