Calstock Marriage look up request please
« on: Sunday 11 October 09 21:43 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find the marriage of a William Martyn b 1796c to a Blanche..? born in 1796 c Redruth married in Calstock.  They had children by 1827 so I would assume married by then.  Also, if it has parents details..I doubt it, but worth a try would be wonderful.

Thanks you soo soo much.

Hi Soph,

There is a very good Calstock Site.

http://www.calstock.info/census/marriages1880s.htm

Neither the marriage nor the reading of banns appear to have taken place in this parish.

Parents names will not appear in the marriage entry. Fathers names are only included after civil registration began in July 1837. Mothers names are not listed. Sorry  Cry

Hi

Looking at the 1841/51 censuses - and also the IGI, several of their children were b Devon - Plympton.  Could they have married in Devon?  Also - why Calstock and not Redruth which was Blanche's birthplace

Their 2 eldest children Elizabeth & Richard are not shown on the IGI in either Devon or Cornwall but are shown as b Devon on the 1841 (but so are William & Blanche so it's not proof positive)

Hi Soph,

A Big Welcome to RootsChat by the way.  Grin

Sorry no-one has been able to help with this so far. I see you requested help on the Devon Board last month and no-one has turned up anything.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,408305.msg2759641.html#msg2759641

I also note on the 1841 census we have 2 children aged 15. In 1841 ages of adults Those 15 years and older) were rounded down so anyone listed as 15 was actually aged between 15 and 19 years. With this in mind we will be looking for a marriage a lot earlier than you are suggesting. (There may be older children who do not appear with the family in 1841. William and Blanche listed as aged 45 means they were born between 1792 and 1796.

Thanks guys for your help.  Yes some of their children born in Plymton and I have only managed to find one exact date of birth for one.  I am just struggling on this couple, on finding her maiden name then to go back  a generation.  Only new at doing this,so can Iask a dumb question.  As I have the exact date of birth on one child from 1827 , can you get birth certificates from this date..just thinking this may help.  I am just looking through Calstock register
Sorry if this is on the wrong board.

Thanks again everyone.

Hi

Unfortunately birth certs were not introduced until 1.7.1837.  Entries prior to that date were in parish registers and did not always show the mothers maiden name

Hi Soph,

These baptisms were Wesleyan and some Wesleyan records record a date of birth and a mothers maiden name unlike most records from the established church. You can puchase a copy of these nonconformist records

http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/

alas with the extracted records from the IGI not listing the name, I do not feel it will be there. If the name was there in the extracted records you could expect to get her parents names. These records where mothers name was included are worded like this .....the son daughter of William Martyn and Blanche his wife who was the daughter of......... Pity her name is not included.  Cry

Blanch is very consistant with a birth 1795/6 in Redruth. (wondering why you think Calstock)

Looking at IGI for Redruth the only Blanch I can see born about that time in Redruth is

Blanch ANGOVE baptised 14 Aug 1796 Redruth parents Richard ANGOVE and Elizabeth. (Richard ANGOVE = Elizabeth REMFREY 10 May 1784 Redruth)

I do not see a marriage for Blanch ANGOVE in Cornwall either.  Cry

prior to that the next earliest Blanch anything baptised in Redruth, seems to be Blanch JOHNS in 1792. Looking at the 1841-1871 census along with the Calstock burial, this seems a little early.

Sorry I am not finding a likely marriage for William and Blanch listed in Cornwall.
