A few mentions in Police Gazettes - as victims
Police Gazette 18 Aug 1875
a prisoner being discharged from gaol
Herbert Spencer Venables, English, aged 20 years, 5ft. 9in. high, fair hair, blue eyes ; sentenced to three months hard labor, for larceny from Charles George Speed, at Adelaide.
Apprehensions
Police Gazette 21 July 1893
Arthur Greaves - by Corporal Richards for imposition on Frank Speed at Caltowie - one month.
Police Gazette 12 Jan 1898
John Parolo by M.C. Farmer for assaulting with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm upon Frank C. Speed at Wallaroo - discharged.

Charles Speed appears to have died in hospital.
Charles George SPEED aged 63 of Adelaide died in North Adelaide on 6th June 1900.
No relative listed.

cma, have you looked at http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/homeIf not, put Speed into the search engine, find the link to the South Australian Advertiser, and then choose the Family Notices link. You may find some interesting bits and pieces there. Dee
cma, also, after you have searched for Speed, and the results come up, and you've chosen the Adelaide Advertiser, put Charles into the search engine and click to search "Within these results. "
I think you'll find some interetsing bits and pieces .....

Hi cma,
I checked for an entry to SA while I was at the library yesterday. No sign of it. I asked the librarian about records of immigration from India and she mentioned how a lot of records have not survived. She felt it would not likely have been directly to SA. She suggested we try other ports. She felt WA may be likely.

I've just checked my Western Australian Arrivals to 1890, but can't see any of your Speeds. As far as I can see, it seems to be arrivals from the UK though.
