This family research is giving me a headache!

I dont have any marriage certificates for any of them. I have not even been able to find any register entries for Angus and Janet Stewarts wedding, just been on SP spent all my credits and got nothing of any value.....

Been trying to find Angus Jnr on 1881 census but nothing.......

Have you found a birth record for Isabella  - I've not found one with those parents so far and I don't want to exhaust my resources  Undecided

I've been searching on M*gr*g*r  and just Is 1890-1995.

Nothing on the 1901 that looks promising for her either.

Something very strange.

I'll have to take a break from this - boring chores must be done.

Will investigate further.

It might be worth trying to find a death for Isabella and also follow up Janet McGregor (witness at her marriage).

I think we have to start from Isabella and get her placed and then work backwards from there.

There's an interesting family on the 1901:

139 High Streeet, Auchterarder  329 ED 7 page 2

David Clark, 64
Isabella, 53

(others)  and grandchildren:

McGregor
Alexander, 11, b. Grahamstown, Stirlingshire
Isabella, 7, b. Glasgow
Janet, 5, b. Glasgow
Anguss, 3, b. Glasgow

It's a large entry so worth you considering it.

I'll check up on these births and get back

I only have an approximate year of birth for Isabella 1893 used her age listed on Marriage entry. I know Isabella's daughter was Cathrine Louden, Cathrine died in 2006, so going to have a look there

Isobella Louden (other name McGregor) died in Dunoon in 1978, aged 84.  You'll have to order the cert via SP - not downloadable.

Angus married Mary Ann Seath in 1889 and gave his father as Angus and his mother as Janet Stewart.
When he died in 1926 in Auchterarder the certificate as witnessed by his daughter Isabella Louden says his father was Alexander  and mother was again Janet Stewart. This couple married in 1861 in Fowlis Wester and appear with their son Angus in the 1871 census. Alexander was born in Fowlis Wester circa 1842.
It doesn't appear that any of these are linked to the Aberfeldy McGregors so I guess they weren't my ancestors' neighbours after all Sad.

See my reply earlier

Lorica

There's something odd about the Angus b.circa 1867. His birth doesn't seem to appear around then. The nearest that I get are two births (on SP and IGI) :

2 May 1864 - Fowlis Wester  Parents - Alexander McGregor and Janet Stewart
18 Jun 1864  in Dunblane Parents - James McGregor and Sarah McLeod

The Fowlis Wester couple married 20 December 1861, Fowlis Wester

Can you check on the Angus (1867) on the 1871-1901 censuses for place and date of birth.

If you follow through with the McGregors of Fowlis Wester you will see they come up as McRosties-not one of the recognised septs of the McGregors.
I wonder what the story was Huh

McRostie is a new one on me  Shocked

I'll go investigate all this later. it's getting chore time and I'm in the dark (must switch on the light  Grin

This is a good example of why one should always work back carefully through all the available documents .

Let me get this straight somehow I made a booboo! Shocked Sad

I thought I was being very careful I got an IGI for an Angus McGregor born Feb 1834 in Kenmore I took that as being the right Angus Snr as Angus jnr Marrage entry had said his fathers name was Angus. I must have put 2+2 together and got 5

So Angus Snr is not Angus he's Alexander! Still trying to take in the discoveries

Yes - he's Alexander and his father was Duncan.  Here they are in 1841:

1841
Blairmore Cottage, Fowlis Wester 357 - ED 3  Page 6

McGregor
Duncan, 25, tailor
Betsey, 25
Alexr, 2
James, 6 months

Duncan b. Scotland, others b. Perthshire

Note that on the 1841 ages of those over 15 were usually rounded down into 5 year age groups so that 25 could be anything between 25 and 29
