Thompson/Startup Family in Sheffield

Hi there

I am looking for information on my family who originate from Sheffield. My father, grandfather and great grandfather are from Sheffield. My Great grandfather Herbert married a Alice Startup in Ecclesall Bierlow.

If anyone has any info it would be a great help.

Thank you very much Dee. I am still trying to find as much info as I can on the Startups especially. I believe Alice may have came from Notts.

I was a bit misled by the 'l' thinking it was an 'I'  Smiley
His name is Herbert Leslie.

This posting on an ancestry message board, in reply to a query from your sibling/cousin John, lists a Herbert Leslie THOMPSON from the 1911 census:

However, there are two possible births...

GRO Births SEP Qtr 1904
THOMPSON Herbert Leslie
Sheffield 9c 527
 
GRO Births SEP Qtr 1905   
THOMPSON Herbert Leslie
Sheffield 9c 610

...so that 1911 entry may be the wrong one.

Do you have the 1929 marriage certificate or have you found Alice in the 1911 census? It would help to know the name of her father.
